Hello,

I'm new to the site But I have been following the site since 06 when I purchased Sherman.

It's a 1966 Fury I, 4 dr with a 225/6 1 bbl carb. It has some body work that needs to get done but not too much. As of now my main concern is replacing the rad. and checking the brakes so I can get him back on the road. He has been parked for three years coming this October :(

Image

I unwrapped him last week an he looked sad.

Image

First project is the replacement of the rad. as sorta seen in the pic/ highlighted the seam split on me. I had gotten into a collision with him and the grill moved back in the slots and the engine moved forward and kissed the rad. I was able to fix the cores but two years later the seam popped on me :?

Image

More to follow as I move on with the projects :D

Splitting of old copper tanks is not uncommon. The metal tends to get thin over the years in these old radiators. You may want to purchase a new unit.

Thanks. He was better looking went I got him all a nice Cherry red, but I guess the Guy who I had got it from did a quick Cheap cheeap paint job to it to sell it.

For the rad;

I know that's what my dad had said. "I never seen this! This doesn't happen too often" when I asked him for advice on the matter. And already got another rad. and parts and setting in for the exchange! (WOOT!!)

I'm going to keep a photo album of the projects, since I have a digital camera now.

If it's the seam of the top tank and the core, just get your plumbers torch out and fix it..................

Clean
lower water level
apply wet towels around area
torch it.....

Hey all,

Some good news! Sherman started up with some coughs, and some WD40 on the linkages and is as angry as ever :P

On Saturday night did some painting of the rad. that I pulled from a 76 Duster.
Image
Image
Finished paint(sorry about the blur)
Image

I had do some snow clearing and some active convincing to get him out of his bed. Almost had a country song because he was stuck (Dodge), and I was gonna pull him out of the hole he made, but hit the snow bank and got my truck stuck (Chevy). All I was missing was the Ford and the Hudderite truck to pull them all out.
Before
Image

After get the truck unstuck
Image

And the snow/dirt in the old man's face from the whole ordeal
Image

Then ran him through the snow with ease and then pulled the old rad.
Found out that I needed to do some mod to the bracket. With that out of the way I popped it in and then realized that the rad. is a little thinner than the old one at the top and need to get a longer inlet hose by 2'. So I stopped there for now.

But since I had some extra paint I brushed and painted my air filter cover.
Image

That's it for now and there will be more to follow.

Hey all,

Yesterday I finished off the radiator project.

Exchanged the hose that was to short for a v8 one then cut it to length. Flushed and pressurized system and no leaks. Woot :P

Now to start the breaks. Haven't checked them in the 5 years I've had the car:roll:

More to follow.

Wil

Interesting. From what I can see, someone has swapped Sherman's head for a early to mid 70s drool tube head and someone has installed an aluminum one barrel intake. i could be wrong, but I think I also see a round counterweight in the exhaust manifold, indicating a later exhaust manifold as well. Nice upgrades.

LOL, uh, thanks Reed... unknowing circumstance upgrades.

(Engine In) I got the engine of some kid that swaped it out of a dart(year unknown) and put a 318 in it. (Drool tubes)

(Engine Out)
When the other engine I rebuilt got stored because I didn't realize when I put it all together that the crank bearing were standard and I needed over sized ones and I didn't have the to swap them out.

The manifolds were from that engine(out) as the exhust manifold was cracked on the newer one(in).

Yes, It is a aluminum intake, and round counter weight.

These parts went in as they were the best of what I had.As I have Two Complete and 1/2 engines with spare parts

Looking on the pictures again, I'amazed thatat you saw the round counter weigh, I didn't even see it. But yet it's there

Hey all,

Got the old man out and about, did some much needed maintiance and tune ups. Did the spring tune, got new tires( much needed and not the gray black)

Image

Picked up a Steering wheel cover for my biting steering wheel. No more torn thumb webs for me 8)

and after a fresh wash and interior clean :P
Image

Image

And a better angel of the exhust counter weight as Reed point out it's round not square :P

Image

I'll need to rebuild my carb soon but that'll be later.

Tach works but I need to connect the back light up.

My daughter was help me out by bring me tools... you know all the tools in the box :P
I wish my Dad and I weren't wrist deep in grease otherwise I could have had a few pictures of the Daugther sitting deeper in the wheel well then me, or one of her sitting on my lap as I was working.

My little girl helped put the hub back on the spindle

Funny thing is, she was more interested in this then the animals at a petting zoo at a farm.(She kept trying to look at and climb on the trackors and other farm equipment.)

Now for the switch from 1bbl to 2bbl carb.

Got the 2bbl intake on yesterday! With only one hiccup, a broken stud the second last one to be torqued :S. I had to pull it, I was lucky as it broke off flush with the washer. I was able to get it out with a set of vice grips, whoo!

I'm waiting for my Uncle to get back to me with the carb.

I'm so pumped!

Sorry guys no pic :(
