Hey all,

Just introducing myself and my slant powered wagon, a 1969 Valiant VF Regal Safari. 70,000 original miles, rust free, just been freshly painted, and planning to start work under the bonnet shortly. I have a cam ready to go in, oversized stainless valves and 340 springs etc ready to rebuild the head, extractors already on the car, a long runner manifold and an oversized carby that will probably be downsized shortly. I'll probably have some questions shortly, but just putting up a few pics now as an intro,

Cheers,

Matt

Thanks Mate. I just realised that I joined 12 months ago, and that is my first post above! Obviously been way too busy!

I am sure that I will recognise a few names from other forums once I get a few posts up.

Im looking forward to getting the engine fixed up, it runs great now, now issues, even with too large a carby, Im sure with the headwork and cam I will be more than happy. Im about to put all the parts together to drop it off to a friends workshop for the work, to here come the annoyingly simple questions!

One sweet ride! Needs a couple of surf boards on top. :D How do you like the Hurricane manifold?

I love it so far, but im sure will be better when the head and ignition are upgraded. I picked it up (along with a few other bits) on eBay from an ex drag car setup, but unfortunately most of the good stuff went with the car.

Great lookin' wagon!

I'd say you have that lowered stance just right. Welcome!

The Carb is a Holley 600, which is jetted right down, and running very well, but probably still way oversized I am guessing. It may be replaced with something like a Holley 425, depending on how it goes when the cam etc are done. I did have a 4 BBL AFB Carter that has been completely reconditioned, but not suited at all to the car, so its wrapped up in the shed.

Not located anywhere near Brissie, Im down Newcastle way.

Thanks, it was a very scientific process (as you can see by the prescence of an angle grinder and beer). 1.5 inch blocks were half price, which gave me a benchmark for the back. Lowered bump stops in, half a dozen turns on the torsion bars didnt seem to do much, so another dozen turns, still didnt seem to do much. That tends to happen when the jack is higher than the car, my friend lifts the car up, I slide the jack out, and all good!

It still rides nicely, no thumps or bottoming out, the K frame is about 90mm off the deck, but rarely touches.
