I folks, After finishing my engine rebuild last fall and nearing the end of the restoration of my 65 Dart convertible, I took the old girl for my first drive around the neighborhood. She starts up and runs fine at idol and is very smooth while driving with lots of pep.
However, when I slowed down to pull back into the garage she wand to hesitate and almost die on me.
Once in the garage the idol was all good with no issues. I did this several times and she wants to cough each time at the idol while in drive. Any suggestions?

Check your accelerator pump for a good healthy pump shot. With the engine off looking down the throat, do you see a healthy shot of gas when you move the throttle shaft?

Accelerator pump shot has no bearing in idle quality.

Double check that your carburetor mixture screws are set properly. After running for a time, these do need periodic adjustments. Sometimes more often than not.

What is your timing set at with the vacuum advance disconnected and at what RPM?

What kind of ignition system are you running (points, Mopar electronic, something else…)? What kind of carburetor do you have?

Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. And have you done a valve adjustment with the engine hot and running?
