Fender tag decode help please? 1963 Val
G'day, I have a 1963 Valiant Signet (USA built - LA plant).
Arrived in Australia last year.

Can anyone on here please help with a decode on the alphabetical part of the fender tag please?

Mine is stamped:

A = 3
G = 1
J = 5
K = 7
L = 6
N = 8
P = 1
Q = 2

I get the lower portion (SO # etc), but I can't seem to find any info on the alphabetical codes anywhere.

Any help really appreciated - thanks
Gary

Post a clear, sharp photo of the tag itself, please.

Link doesn't work; you've got the tags backwards. Put afterward. Also, please post a larger picture; this one you've linked to is too small to be much good.

This'll work, but for future reference, "a bigger picture" really means a bigger picture, not an artificially-enlarged (and therefore low quality) version of the too-small picture.

I'll see what I can decipher out of your tag.

Tough to decode a '63 tag; the codes differed by production plant and are not well documented. Galen Govier's books are practically useless; they're full of errors. The best idea would be to send for a copy of the car's build record as described here. But meanwhile, this is what I'm able to dig out with at least reasonable certainty:

1027: scheduled build date of 27 October 1962 (1027 on the bottom row of tag)

PPP: Red upper and lower exterior and red interior paint, PPG Ditzler #71203

A3: Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission

G1: Radio, AM 2-watt Music Master

K7: Dual horns

L6: ??? Could be luggage compartment light.

N8: Windscreen washer, dual jet

P1: ??? Could be driver side view mirror

Q2: 225 cubic inch engine

795: Bucket seats, red vinyl, Valiant Signet 200

Thanks Dan, but there was really no way of enlarging that original pic for him. Needs a proper BIGGER pic.
Probably one of those cell phone jobs he used.
