when I floor the car the trans slowly slips from drive to neutral. This ONLY happens when floored. It works fine if I gradually put the pedal all the way down but when I floor it it slips. Any suggestions on what the cause is?

Have you checked the kick down linkage adjustment, or is the linkage missing altogether??

Broken Trans or Motor Mounts is my guess..


The engine torque with broken mounts is moving the lever when you dont want it to.

The linkage is there but might not be adjusted correctly. I tried to adjust it to what i think is correct but i am probably off. It is a 2 barrel set-up and some custom fab work was done. There is a new trans mount and the trans works and shifts great under normal driving conditions, but the kickdown is probably off as i am learning as i go on my car. I do have a custom converter with a 2400 stall maybe that is part of the problem? Or kickdown linkage.

Set-up your kickdown so that when your throttle is wide open (read: full throttle) the linkage has pushed the arm on the transmission ALL THE WAY back. It should not be "tight", it should simply "stop" all the way back when the throttle is opened all the way.

If that is the case, then it sounds like you've got some internal transmission adjustments to make....

When was the last time the bands were adjusted?

I'm with Ceej here.

IF the kickdown linkage is not binding on the shift linkage, motor mounts would be the obvious answer.

I have not adjusted the bands and i just put the trans in the car. I bought it used and slapped it in. I do see some cracking in the motor mounts as they are probably the originals.
