My previous post was an electrical issue, but I was also having issue getting gas to the carb. Resolved that , but she just would NOT start, no gas in the fuel filter. After testing the lines, they appeared to be clear. The last test was running a hose for the tank side of the fuel pump to a couple of gallons of gas....NOTHING. So, bad fuel pump right?
Picked a fuel pump from Advanced Auto for $20! Installed it today, bingo! Started right up and purred like a kitten for 10 minutes. I mean, like she was new off the lot! Then I shut it off. BIG mistake. Don't know what's up now. She turns over, but you have to keep your foot on the accelerator to keep it running and sound rough. Whole engine vibrates like its struggling to get gas again or something. Carb? Gunk in the old tank clogging things up again? Sending unit?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try running a line form the fuel pump into a hose. Take the fuel tank, pickup, and fuel line out of the equation. If you still have a problem, try shooting compressed air back through the fuel line until you hear it gurgling in the gas tank, then try starting it again. If it runs good, then you know you need to at least pull the sending unit and clean the fuel pickup sock, but you might also need to drop the tank and get it cleaned and/or replaced.

Probably dirt and/or water in the carburetor. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download.

I changed the fuel pump and nothing has changed since then. I ran a hose from the carb side of the fuel line to a can of gas. It starts up fine and seems to be fine, except for a high idle right off the bat. Then, when I shut it off and start it back up again, it struggles and chokes out. Hooked the fuel line back up and it does the exact same thing from the tank or a can of gas. When you step on the gas the 2nd time you start it, the whole engine shakes and chokes out. Bad plugs or wires? Carb?
