As the title says,

Have you bought this kit before? If so, can share your thoughts (Good and Bad)?

http://pertronix.carshopinc.com/product ... /43/91361A

For 88 bucks is it worth it? My points distributor is having mind of its own now, hence I was thinkin' of upgrading to Electronic Ignition.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Dan for the link.

I am concerned about the part availability if I go for the GM HEI route, considering that Im in Malaysia. Are they hard to get? I mean in the States?

I probably need to get a new dizzy from Old Car Parts NW as you pointed out in the link. Or maybe someone in here has one for sale. I would assume cost of shipping a complete distributor to Malaysia would be quiet high too.

I would also need the HEI Module in your link. Are they hard to get by?

Appreciate your help Dan, as always.

Syed

I have had a pertronix in my '66 Valiant racecar for several years and have run it under many different conditions, including 6000 RPM on drag and road racing tracks. It is in a stock Mopar points distributor. Seems like a perfect set up for a street car too.

Let me know if you need a points distributor.

I have had a pertronix on my Hyperpack dart since 2002ish..

I have logged over 20,000+ Street Miles and also 100's of dragstrip blasts.. Never any problem.. I picked it 'cause the concept for the dart is a stock look.

I also Have a pertronix running my megasquirt on one of my fuel injected cars.

I have 2 of them, one in a /6 and the other in my 66-300 for about 20 years combined without a hic-cup.

My general advice is that the Pertronix kit works fine, but I prefer the HEI upgrade. Not because the Pertronix is notoriously unreliable, but because if a failure does occur, you can get HEI parts from every parts store and wrecking yard, but you can only get Pertronix parts from Pertronix. That situation may not apply to you because I don't know how available (or unavailable) HEI parts in your locale.

I too have had a Pertronix in my car for several years and just kinda forgot about it. I bought it already installed in a distributor from someone on this forum and carry my point old point distributor in my trunk in case something happens.
Dan is right. If something does go wrong, you are gonna be left sitting until you get a replacement part from Pertronix. Dennis

These are what i used in my HEI conversion.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BOSCH-IGNITI ... 2c63b93677

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/IGNITION-MOD ... 2ebbec9a5b

The module in the link is a copy, but the BIM024 are readily available in Australia.I don't think postage to Malaysia would cost much.
I used the HEC715 because you don't have to get a different coil lead.
Maybe try one of your local parts dealers, they may even have them.
If not, give me a PM and i can source them for you through a local parts dealer i use.
