I want to install rear disc brakes on my 66 dart. I found a kit from ssbc
that looks good. I'm running a 8-3/4 rearend from an a-body car. It has the small bolt pattern, and this kit says I need to change to axles that have 5x4.5 bolt pattern. How can I accomplish this?? Can I have my axles welded and redrilled, or can I get new axles?? I already have front disc brakes fron a 75 duster, and they work great. But I want to switch to power brakes. What year or make booster can I use.
Thanks-Josh

Or does my early rear already have 5x4.5. I'm confused, how do I tell?

Moser can redrill axles, or you can buy custom made complete axles from them already with the LBP for $200/pr.

There were two power brake boosters, a smaller diameter longer one (72 and earlier?) and the later larger diameter shorter one. Either would work, but for the later disc brakes, I would probably choose the later booster just because thats what the factory used with them.

It is unlikely a 66 A body axle had large bolt pattern. Heck I *think* all a body 8 3/4" had SBP.

All A-body 8.75" axles had SBP. I have a set of the Moser axles and they were about $220 shipped to my door (no bearings). For a street car, I would just get your axles redrilled.

Check out www.tsmmfg.com for another rear disc kit. I have these on my '64 Dart road course beast.

You don't need power brakes. Just get an adapter from arengineering.com and run the late model aluminum master cyl with a 15/16" bore and an adjustable prop valve (Summit $40) and your pedal effort will be quite low.

Cool sight 270, never seen a conversion for a 7.25 and their pricing is excellent. Questions: Where's the front conversion? Are these suitable for everyday street use?....Dave

Should be OK for everyday. I've had no troubles in about 6k miles and some racing.

Front disc swaps are easy with factory parts, so no reason for tsmmfg to engineer fronts.

Everyone,

Also for the TSMMFG kit, you should look at Outlaw and Wilwood for new aluminum calipers to replace the GM Metric calipers (narrow design). These are probably better and much lighter than the stock GM units, they are new, and don't cost that much more than rebuilt GM units from a parts store. They are making them, and I will likely upgrade in the next year or two for weight reduction.
