Would I get just a few inches of lift maybe just past level if I bought shocks for the back that were say 5 inches or so longer than stock?

No. Lift is added through changing or altering the springs, not the shocks.

I have a 68 Dart, and I replaced my worn & sagging leaf springs with the "Hi-Lift" spring set from J.C. Whitney. They were a good price (especially with free shipping) and they put my Dart at a nice, gentle angle.

Air shocks will also lift your vehicle, but are not a good solution. If your springs are sagging, replace them.

The springs are fine, so are the shocks for that matter I just like the look of it being slightly higher in the back not to much, what about shackles for the leaf springs?

Shackles can change the rear end height, but if you get shackles that are too far different form the stock length, you can adversely affect handling.

So you want the shackle to come straight down to the end of the spring correct? Now in my 71 swinger I put overload coils in the back and that worked awsome especialy for getting rid of the body roll and it handled great but they are hard to find ones that fit these cars

They also work awesome for ripping the upper shock mounts out of the body of the car. Do it right- rearch or replace the rear springs if you want more height. You might get an inch or two of height by adding helper springs.

Ok one more, what about modern airbags? I have seen some folks put them on older cars? I am leaning towards just adding leafs and or shackles tho

You can "bag" the rear end of your car, but it would be easier and cheaper to just add leafs or install new springs.
