After my little oil smoke scare (blocked breather grommet - do not buy Mr. Gasket grommets - material is junk too), I did some hard pulls today.

Once you get the tires spinning, they just don't want to stop. Two 60-80 ft stripes w/o breathing hard. Also hit 4300-4400 RPM in 0.693 overdrive, 3.55 rear gear, and 24.7" rear tires. You can do the math... Fastest I've been in that car ever and it was still pulling hard. Did not take long to get there, and at only 6.5 psi. Car was very smooth and stable at that speed.

Lou

I don't see that it should be hard to hit 150 on 10 psi...

That's 5,038 rpm, if my shaky calculations are correct, with your existing final drive gearing, and those same tires.

Looks do-able to me!

Go for it... :)

I'm trying to figure out your numbers Lou. 8.7 Static CR multiplied by 14.7 psi at Sea level gives me a theoretical max of 128 psi. If you are getting readings of 160 psi, would you not have to be running a SCR of at least 10.9? (160 psi/14.7). I see Turbo66 says he's running 105-110 which I can understand (7.5 CR x 14.7=110 psi)

What am I missing?

I do not put any stock in absolute comp gauge psi readings. Only good for comparison among cylinders and at different points in time for diagnosis. All I can say is what I mechanically measured and calculated, which I am quite confident about.

I had an 11:1 motor read 210-220 psi on a comp gauge, even with a high overlap cam. No WAY I accidentally machined it for 14:1 DCR!

The 68 turbo Dart survived another drag weekend in style, all the way across the country (Woodburn, OR), and with new lower times and faster MPHs. Big bonus was to win the race on Sunday!

Can't say how much fun it was to meet all the Killer Bees in the West and get acquainted. The Slanted Family is strong and fun everywhere!

14.27 @ 100.98 MPH best time on 9 psi, 14.77 @ 95 MPH on 6 psi.

Played with timing and fuel settings some, which netted better ET and MPH, but worse 60 ft times (best 2.30, worst 2.45). Best previously was 2.22, so there's 0.1-0.2 to gain back there. Not enough time in t'n't to fix this before the racing.

New Midwest converter stalled around 2300, so that is still holding me back.

The scales at Woodburn said 3480 lbs w/ me, helmet, and 1/2 tank, with 1540 lbs on the rear. So, 3520 w/ full tank and 1580 rear. Man, way too heavy for my tastes. Will have to work on this...

Car has gotten 22-24 MPG on the trip across the country.

Lou (from easter OR, on the way to Bonneville Salt Flats)

Thanks, Rob.

You'll probably have to wait until next spring/summer, since Romeo is letting me put this car up in Vegas so I can fly back later and run an event or two next yr. The plus is that I won't have this car distracting me and I can put the new and improved 64 Dart back together - maybe by Clay City??

Lou
