There's no such thing as a "Hyper Pak engine". The Hyper Pak was a parts kit available from dealer parts departments, officially from late '60 through '61 though remaining stock was sold for several years afterward. There weren't many made; they weren't very popular. The kit consisted of special intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetor, camshaft and associated parts. It could be installed on any slant-6 engine, including one of the approximately 50,000 aluminum block 225s made between 1961 and 1963. All of the aluminum 225s came equipped the same as a regular iron 225: 1-barrel carburetor, very mild camshaft, etc. So the first thing is to determine exactly what is being offered.

As for the aluminum block itself, its worth is heavily dependent on its condition. These engines were subject to corrosion and other kinds of degradation not seen in the iron engines, particularly if they weren't properly cared for. Since they were on the road at a time when it was still common to use plain water in the cooling system during above-freezing weather, a lot of the aluminum blocks suffered extensive corrosion. Also they can only be overbored 0.040", so even an uncorroded engine is more likely to be used up and worn out than an iron one.

Tell us more about what you see (or have) for sale and a better answer will probably be forthcoming.

Hyper-Pak is a special kit that can be installed an any Slant Six. (mainly a long "ram" 4 bbl intake manifold and special cast iron dual exhaust manifolds)

Aluminum block engines are some early 225s, about 50,000 were made between 1961 & 1963

So what do you have, an aluminum block SL6, Hyper-Pak manifolds or both?

Well I found a 62 lancer with an aluminum block with the hyper Pak manifold and headers, the guy said it came from the factory with it, the car body is solid, interior is rough and the motor runs good. What's she worth?

The car did not come that way from the factory -- the seller is mistaken.

What kind of headers does it have? Are they the regular tubular steel type, or are they made of cast iron? Can you show us some pictures?

I have yet to see a picture of the complete engine, I'm hoping to go look at it sometime, maybe this wknd. Is the one set worth more than the other? The head has "special" stamped into it, I've done lots of reading on slants a hyper paks over the last 2 yrs and I've never seen this or read of a different head. Did they ever make a head other than the one that every slant has?

The SPECIAL head had more accurately located combustion chambers to better seal the open deck aluminum engine. It's otherwise the same as like model year heads.

Pictures will tell a lot about the nature of the beast. Take high resolution ones if you can and make sure you capture casting numbers and other identifying marks if possible.

And from the first motor picture it's an Aluminum block.

This reminds me of that thread not too long ago about the Valiant that sat on a lake bed from 1978 until 2012. I would want to spend a LOT of time with a magnet and a screwdriver inspecting the body of that vehicle.

So if it DOES have the complete hyper Pak kit and the body IS as solid as he tells me, how much would y'all suggest?
