So after finding a gaping hole in the Aspens block 2 weeks ago, I have a chance to snag another 225 with only 57,000 miles on it out of a 1967 D100. Other than swapping over the distributor for the electronic ignition, should I look for anything else, or should it just bolt right up in place of the original motor?

If the 67 engine has a small hub crank, (most are) this engine will not work with your large "nose" torque converter, found on 68 and up automatic transmissions.
If your Aspen has a manual shift transmission, you will need an early flywheel (small hole) or machine an adapter ring to get everything to fit / work correctly.

Crap. I've got an auto. If I swap torque converters with an early one will it work?

There is a special custom converter that will solve the problem... but a simple swap of factory parts does not work.
The later "big hub" converter is due to a larger transmission input shaft, that shaft also has more splines so the "small hub" converter will not fit onto it.

Silly question Doc, but being that the original engine puked a rod and the condition of the crank is unknown, could the older crank hub be machined to work? Or would it be easier just to find another later crank if mine is shot?

We have a shop in Sacramento that can machine out the rear hub to the correct size... so yes, it can be reworked.
We do this with most all SL6 early cranks so they can be used with any transmission combo. (use an adapter ring when mating to a "small hub" converter)
