I installed a petronix igniter 1361A in my 63 Dart 225 eng, it ran fine for about a year, now I have a miss.I bypassed the ballast resister , and the mis s went away. I'm getting conflicting reports on bypassing, some say it will burn out the coil , others say not. Someone told me to get an e coil( I don't know what this is) , can I just get a petronoix coil and keep the resister bypassed. If so does anyone know what coil to get, thanks jim.

Ecore coils are the type used with GM HEI and require 12v so no ballast is required. Stock coil will definitely not last long without the ballast since it requires less voltage.

To find out more about ecore coils check the HEI conversion in the engine FAQ or search online. They are very common and you should find plenty of info very quickly.

What's your coil resistance? (1.5 or 3.0)

If it's 3.0, no ballast needed

1.5, you need ballast for the coil.

The pertronix should have the full voltage in either case (no ballast)

I use the pertronix 1 with pertronix 3.0 coil; no ballast......

I run a Pertronix 3 ohm coil as well with out a ballast resistor. Been using it for several years, great starts and .045 plug gap on the NGK's. Click on the red link below my name to view pictures of the coil, wiring, etc...
Go out to Pertronix website, they list several styles of 3 ohm coils. I tried the stock canister type mounted near the block, then moved it to the top of the fender well for better cooling, then upgraded to the HEI style. The HEI style has the best cooling.
