Our friends strut rod bushings are completely gone in their '64 to the point that I won't let them drive it until it's fixed. I know this is a daunting or at least really time consuming task but are there any tricks of the trade to make this any easier?

And don't say cut the rod and re-weld it when your finished or I'll sick Dan on you.

Thanks in advance.

If the strut rod bushings are gone the lca bushings will be gone as well. Release tension from torsion bar and remove bar. Remove lower ball joint from lower control arm. Remove nut for strut rod and lca pivot pin. Remove the strut rod and lower control arm as an assembly. Replace the lower control arm bushing and strut rod and reassemble. It can be tough to remove the strut rod without removing the LCA so I would just do them together.

Yup, all that and what the heck, do the upper control arm bushings as well. Makes no sense not to replace all the bushings, and check over all the front end parts for excessive wear. While the car is all disassembled this is good time to just go through it, and replace all deficient parts.

Good point, we may as well do the upper and lower control arm bushings while it's apart.

Don't forget the ball joints and wheel bearings while you are in there.

I service the wheel bearings on all of our cars on a regular basis and the ball joints should be all good. I'm pretty adamant about giving every front end a shake whenever the car's on a hoist.

Good advice though.
