I have never done this swap, but I have mentioned to several people, that I think it is a viable conversion for a "A" body. The trans is smaller (physically) then the A500, and just might fit without butchering up the floor. The trans is well supported by both the OEM, and aftermarket. There are many "hopup" parts available, as these transmisions are used in many drag/high performance cars.

I have a 3.8L 2003 Impala and it typically gets around 30 mpg (~ 25 mpg US) around town. On the highway, it revs around 1800 RPM @ 60 mph and gets more like 34 mpg (~ 28 mpg US). Although the Impala has better aerodynamics, with a 0.70:1 OD (~ 1800 RPM @ 60 mph) for the 4T65-E transmission, I think 30 mpg would be reasonably achievable for an A-body with a 200R4.

Using a 3.23:1 axle with a 200R4 would be like having a early A904 with a 3.61:1 axle in first gear and a 2.16:1 axle in OD. Highway revs would be about 1944 RPM @ 60 mph with P195/75R14 tires.

I am looking into details now.

Question for Wilcap: Does this adapter plate also have the general GM trans bolt pattern on it? I might want to run a 4L60E or 700R4 in the future.

It looks like many of the 200-4R trannys have the GM std bolt pattern ALSO on their BHs, after 84 or so.

Weight listed on one site is 132 lbs, which is 15-40 lbs more than a 904, depending on whether that includes converter. Not bad.

If someone is on the phone with them, and you get the chance...

From what I see in the picture, the transmission has both the Chevy and the BOP bolt pattern and they used the Chevy bolt holes. That should mean that it could be used with the 700R4, 4L60E, Powerglide or any GM transmission that has the Chevy bolt pattern.

OK, so who is in for an adapter kit from Wilcap??

I bet if we get 6-10 we could get a price break. They have done this for us before on the alum flywheels.

Don't forget to look at the Art Carr Transmissions web site, They are talking 1,000 HP in front of those things.Should handle anything a slant can throw at it.

This is a nice thread detailing an install. It seems the upper trans cross member needs notching and lower member fabbed from scratch. Maybe there's an easier way to modify the stock lower member?
