I am going to swap my wifes engine from her 63 into the 64.If I have to swap out the pushbutton trans, how in the heck am I going to get the cables apart and adjusted if I have never done this before? Is there anything online step by step? Or am I sorta sunk? I need to drive this next friday to a drag race for my wife to race.....only 3 hours away.LOL

if you have to swap?
I'm not following the logic.
your putting a motor from 1 car in to another, in this case a 63 into a 64.
do you need the trans?
you can dismantle the pushbutton stuff from the dash--- leaving the cables in the transmission.

I took the park brake cable loose from the shifter assembly. (it bolts on--take pictures for re-assembly)
Then disconnected the cable selector--
this leaves the cables intact at the transmission.
they both have a crimped on bracket-- leave that on unless you have a way to re-crimp.

you can then transfer over to the different car..

I know you can remove from the trans-- but I've never had any luck getting those items connected correctly. Lawrence

The 63 has a known semi good trans....the 64 ????, but I have a rebuilt one.I got the engine swapped over today, tomorrow I will change the trans filter and fluid.(in the 64 trans)....the pan gasket is a seeper. The converter area looked dry, so as long as I can seal up anything and run it the way it is, that will be fine with me for now.I am trying to get this driving asap.
Thanks for the help!!

Both cables slide into "sleeves" and are held with a spring clip.
You must lift the clip to remove the cable from the transmission.
With the pan off, it is easy to release the shift cable.
The Park cable takes a bit more "fishing" to release, see the FSM photo below.
As for the "leaky pan", change the throttle pressure lever seal, those are often the cause of leaks with the cable shift 904's
