The 904 transmission on my 67 GT Convertible has been leaking really badly from the shift shaft seal and this weekend I decided enough was enough and I'd tackle it. I picked up a new shift shaft seal, a new rigid pan gasket from the Chrysler dealership and a new transmission filter (WIX 58707). I cleaned the outside of the tranmission thoroughly with degreaser and pressure washer before starting and allowed to dry. I removed the linkages from the shaft, loosened the pan and allowed it to drain. Removed the pan and the filter and that's when I noticed that the new filter isn't the same size as the old one.

The transmission is still in the car and the numbers stamped on the side read 2801533Y 2362205

Is the new larger filter compatible with my transmission or do I need to get something else? I also see that the new one only has one hole is it whereas the old one has two. I remember reading something about that on here but my search skills are failing me.

All good choices. The larger new filter will fit and work just fine, go ahead and install. The only transmissions that can't use this larger filter are the pre-'66 units.

Thanks for the reassurance and confirmation that ths filter is the correct part. Hopefully I'll can get it back together tomorrow and it will have stopped the leak.
