My smog pump is presently spending a great deal of time under going a lingering death. It works, but the noise coming from it is reaching new highs...or is it lows? Either way, it is in need of replacement. All I can find is Cardone rebuilds...any suggestions?

First question, what kind of emissions regulations does your state have? If you don't have inspections or testing remove the catalytic converter and the smog pump altogether. That is what I did on my truck, but I had to fab an idler pulley to go in place of the smog pump. Before I was going through reman smog pumps quiet often, which I later found out was because of a faulty check valve.

If you are stuck with the emissions equipment, then a $80 cardone pump is pretty much your only option. Also check and see if the exhaust check valve on the pump discharge hose is working. On mine it would stick open and allow exhaust fumes to be pushed back up into the pump.
