I just thought some of my experiences may be of some use to anyone tackling this conversion.I have not used the 200 trans but have used the TH700 and A518's in an A body here in Australia. The 700 was behind a Hemi 6,it was modified at the bellhousing to directly bolt onto the hemi without adaptors and a custom V6 converter was built. This was a while back now but from what I recall it fitted the tunnel with virtually no modification, except that the upper "U" section of the crossmember needed trimming back and reinforcing.I manufactured my own lower crossmember and used the GM mount which ended up being very close to the same position as stock.A custom speedo cable was used.I had a colum shift and rigged it up using a cable,we are right hand drive so it was a little more of a hassle than what you would have to do,but you will probably have the same issues with detent spacing and reverse lights and neutral isolation switches.I cant remember which way it went, but the park detent is more widely spaced in one of these transmissions, the result being the detent in the colum shift is not spot on in park, but you can still engage it,I also think the 700 only had LDNRP detents, not 12DNRP like the torqueflites. The GM trans have neutral and reverse switches in the shifters, not in the trans, its all doable and if you use an aftermarket or GM shifter all this would be avoided.I also found the V6 converter a little loose for a torquey low revving engine,I tried to get the stall down and was a lot better, but in hindsight a supercharged/turbo V6 or a V8 converter may be better. They are a good trans and the overdrive certainly made highway driving a pleasure.I then pulled the Hemi6/TH700 combo and put in a stroker 318 with A518,much bigger job as far as modifying the crossmember/rear tunnel, but everything else bolts up and works well. After a good overhaul, big trans cooler and Mopar fluid I have found this trans to be reliable, but far heavier, larger and I would consider power robbing than the TH700,but with the torque of the V8 it works out very well.Sorry for the ramble guys, hopefully someone may find my experiences useful for planning their swaps in the future.
Cheers,Steve

This is definitely not dead. I am planning to make an order for 10 soon, and will need deposits from folks before I do that. This is still open if someone new wants to step up.

Have been slammed at work and no time to manage this affair. If someone else wants to manage it who is more hurried than me, be my guest. Hopefully next week I can get back to it.

Thanks,

Lou

Lou - How much of a deposit will you be needing?

I am thinking $300 each? I need to call and negotiate a final price. They want to ship them all to one or two addresses, so I'll likely have to float the total (whoa) and collect money from you end users. Or, it might be easier for folks who can to just pay me up front once I place the order. I will make sure to get delivery timing.

Please let me know of any concerns or ideas you have.

Thanks,

Lou

Lou, I'll pay for mine up front. Let me know when, how much and how much to add for shipping to my house from you.

I was reading up on 4-speed OD transmissions and Keistler also makes an a-body kit based on the 4L60E, which apparently fits in the a-body tunnel "with only a minimal modification to the car's torsion bar brace".

Although the 4L60-E isn't known as a performance transmission, it is still supposed to handle up to 360 ft-lbs of torque, which is a lot more than the 215 ft-lbs of the 225's 1960 gross torque rating.

Any guesses as to how much better the 4L60/4L60E would fit in an a-body?

4l60 is an od box based on the turbo 350. The 4l60E is electronically controlled.

They are larger than the 200r4. They are stronger than the 200R4

They have sun gear issues in the od part of the box. Ive done in several myself. (you get to drive home in 3rd gear)

I like the 4L60E when it is controlled by a good PCM

They are junk compared to a 4L80E......

I don't have direct experience, but from what I've (repeatedly and consistently) read, Keisler has problems telling the truth about his products.

It looks like Keistler's recommended mods to the transmission cross-member are similar (and a bit more extensive) than the one for the 200-4R.

Thanks for the links, Frank. Those are MUCH less than I had to do on my A500 install.

There are GN guys running 1000 HP through 200-4Rs, so I'm not so worried about power handling. Plan on buying a strongly rebuilt trans for my turbo car (eventually), and a mildly rebuilt one for my V2 Valiant in the shorter term.

This adapter plate should allow use of 200-4R, 4L60E, 4L80E, 700-R4, etc, GM trannys.

Cheers,

Lou

If you've already moved your engine forward for the A500's clearance, you might not need to make any cross-member modifications for the 200-4R.

Yep, very possible.

My first install will almost certainly be my 64 Valiant, so mods will be different than those pics, but hopefully not too bad.

Lou
