If so please share Some tips..


I just had an upper control arm Rot out and crack on my '77 Truck... Good thing it did not happen on my trip to bristol... It happned maybe 2 miles from the house and I was to able to gently drive it home no more than 15 Miles an hour and downshift ranther than use the brakes..

anyway.. I had some like new upper control arms, so I pressed in new Bushings and swapped the upper ball joints..
One Tie rod adjusting sleve was virtually frozen so i got a new one of those for the Right side.

I have a bubble gauge for checking my own alignments.. and toe plates..

I set camber / caster as close as I can get it to the FSM specs..

I set toe in dead on as Per FSM specs..


Now the steering wheel is a bit off.

To correct this problem i would imagine I need to Pop the outer tie rods on each side and turn then both in the same direction i.e both towards the right side of the truck to get the wheel back into the center and then re-check the toe?


any help in appreciated..


I will probably get it to a Real alignment shop when I have time but I wanted to try it myself and be able to drive for a month or 2 with out the front end doing erratic things or burning the tires off.

You should be able to get away with lengthing one tie rod (say 1/2 turn) and shortening the other an identical amount.

Once the steering wheel is straight, you can check the toe for warm fuzzies......

Do mine all the time.Turn tables,Bubble gauges,Tramel bar for toe.
Just what Ed said Set the wheel straight and eyeball to see what one gets turned in and the other out.Should be no more than 1 full turn. a little goes a long way.

I dont have turn plates yet.. or a bar.. I just use a protractor and mark out with chalk 20* and 20* from center and then I have a pair of toe plates and 2 tape measures..


Being Married is great.. Germany was a blast.. driving a constent 120+ MPH on the autobahn along with seeing the Sinsehim auto und Technik Museum and the Nurburgring were all just great.

We were supposed to have a BMW sedan but the rental company did not supply that
