My Aspen has started to eat her rear diff gears so what I'm wanting to know is what is the best rpm range for my stock super six? I can now choose a gear set that will best suit my driving needs. I Was thinking a 2.95 that will net me 2,800 rpm at 70 thanks for the help.[/quote]

I did the calculator thing with my tire size and the rpm at 70 that's where I got the 2.95 gear from. I was thinking that 2,800 rpm at 70 should pull my sedan well with the A/C cranking and the trunk loaded with luggage.

They make a 2.94 gear for the 8 1/4 and that would work rather well. Personally I would not put money into a 7 1/4. Also, the ring and pinion tend to fail less often than the spider and side gears. You may be able to fix your current rear end.... inexpensively.
