Is there any difference between the 9" brake and 10" brake spindle size. Thanks

AFAIK, the 10" spindle has larger bolts securing it to the backing plate & lower ball joint (therefor it has different L BJ as well). I don't specifically know about other dimensions such as wheel bearing sizes.

I usually ditched the 9" setup- do not pass go (10" drums), proceed directly to disc brakes.

ball joints are the same 9 or 10" drum brake cars -- the spindle is larger on a 10" set-up.

Are you sure about that? I remember reading in mopar action years ago about 9 inch drums have smaller LBJ bolts holding the lbj to the knuckle. It would be interesting to know why the question is being asked.

I ran across a '72 Valiant in the junkyad...pretty complete. It is a 318 car and has the 10" drum brakes. Just want to see what if anything is identical to my cars 9" drum braking system that I can get and keep for my car and use later on down the road.

positive about the ball joints--- look it up-- the disc brake cars have a different ball joint -- somewhere in the early 70's the 10" brakes are different than the 60's style -- I'd guess late 72-- probably changed with 73 like most things.

if your car is a 60's 9" drum brake (non- finned style) then a 10" upgrade will be better-- not as good as discs, you will want to verify the upper ball joint is the same as your car--.
I swapped 10" drums on a 62 valiant & it helped a bunch-- I also had a 70's duster with 9" brakes & it stopped better than the valiant (finned drums very heavy)
Depending on the price- cheap then go for it-- take upper/lower control arms & everything in between. Lawrence
