I am running 10-30 Rotella semi synthetic in my Corolla. It has 177K on it. It stays clean.

Diesel oils have lots of detergents. The car had been pampered before I got it a year ago. Plenty of zinc for big cams.

Try to get Shell to tell you how much is synthetic. They never responded to my emails.

I have run diesel 15-40 Valvoline in the slants. It wasn't necessary.

Thanks for the info on my oiling question. Now the rear diff is dead bummer. The question here is I put in a Sun pro oil pressure gauge and my wife's Ams oil in a 10/30 weight and my slant holds 50psi off idle and 25psi at idle but it takes a count to 3 before the hand moves on the gauge. Is this normal for a slant?

You are always starting with no oil pressure. 3 seconds? Specs say 1.222123 seconds! You have a problem!

Either that I am talking out my butt! Sounds OK to me!

I can't tell exactly what your 3 seconds is. Are you talking about time before oil pressure after a cold startup?

What kind of filter are you running?

Scamsoil is a waste of money.

It sounds like the filter is "draining back" after shutdown.
Does the pump have it's stand pipe and check valve?

The stand pipe doesn't stat full when I'm changing the oil. It's empty by the time I get the other filter ready to put on. The filter is a Purolator L30341. If its the drain back valve where do I get one at? Thanks for the help. Hey Trucker I live in Columbia if you can tell me where to pick up that valve at. The wife works in downtown Nashville.

AFAIK synthetic runs off the internals in something that isn't driven much.

No more or less than dinosaur-based oil.

The standpipe and valve assembly went obsolete quite a long time ago. Install a plain straight-through oil filter adaptor fitting (the kind that comes on every new oil pump -- if you need one, place a "Wanted" ad and someone will have one for you), and start using Wix 51806 (NAPA Gold 1806, Purolator L30137) filter which has a built-in standpipe and the problem will go away.

The filter I use has a stand pipe in it but I'm not sure about the anti drain back valve I can't tell of its in there. To play it safe I'm changing the filter after work today cause we're heading to Missouri to visit family. We're heading out tomorrow morning. Oh the rear diff thing was just a shot bushing. Thanks again for the help. Rug Trucker i misspelled sorry about that the 47 year old eyes doyn't work like they use to.

The filter number you quoted does not have a standpipe built in.

Count to three sounds normal. Every vehicle I've had with a non computer controlled oil pressure gauge has always had some lag during cold start up then the pressure shoots up.

Even my diesel does it, and it's pushing over 80 PSI cold idle.

Your numbers sound good. I wouldn't worry. Just don't rev the snot out of it when it's cold...or any cold engine for that matter. Get the filter Dan was talking about. It's the same one that fits a Perkins diesel on a Massey Ferguson tractor, which also has the filter oriented vertically.

Much thanks for helping me out. Got the 1NAPA 1806 on the car last night parked the car back in the barn and this morning the oil pressure shot up about the same time the engine caught. Thanks again for helping .
