I have a 67 valiant. The front right hub is a mess. It has a combo of L and R threaded studs (some wobble some don't, one is stripped). The drum seperates from the hub without much effort (read setting it on the ground the hub kinda slumps down a 1/8 inch). I want to swap out the studs to right handed on both sides anyhow. So I thinking just replace them.
I found a set of drums (finned even!) and a hubs in really good shape for about a hundred bucks. The only hitch is that they're from a 69 dart. All parts mentioned are 9 inch drum SSP. Do they jive?
This may be the least frankenstein type question about interchangeable parts I have ever asked here.

if your 67 is 9" drums then 69 should fit with out a problem-- I'm thinking the price is a little $$ for 9" brakes--most people pitch them..

my point is, if your spending $100 --apply that towards a disc brake upgrade
(sbp disc 73-up bbp brakes & scarebird) these are the cost effective ones, there are aftermarket companies that have complete brake swaps.

for that matter-- have new studs correctly installed on your hub

I swapped all the left handed studs on the Dart for right handed. When I got the car it had both L&R studs on same hub, this was a total PIA. Where no modern car uses this L&R stud configuration, converting to 100% right hand eliminates broken stud problems from brain-dead air gun jockeys changing tires.

I agree with up grading to later model disk brakes if you are going to purchase a spindle. One thing to keep in mind if you do upgrade to disks is you may need 14 inch wheels to clear them.

Yeah those 69 brakes will work.

I do agree about converting to discs if you're going to spend a lot of money on drums, but discs are expensive as well. Not only do you need the disc brake setup but you'll need a master cylinder and proportioning valve along with new flexible hoses and I believe lower ball joints as well.

Thanks guys. I really appriciate the knowledge and advice. I am way into the idea of the disc brake conversion. My philosphy is always upgrade upon replacement. I started pricing it out a while back. All told, the scare bird looks best. I'd be able to use my awesome wheels. The kit is $495, I don't think that includes the proportioning valve. Then there's always $50 worth of that unexpected items, be it what it may, grinding wheel, drill bit or brake hoses or whatever it is. The irony is, I still have to provide a good hub. I'm sure it seems like false economy but I guess I'm sticking with drums for the while.

The real drag of this whole danged story is that I'd swapped my good tires to some rad wheels that I'd purchased off a guy on Craigs list. It turns out he's on the forum. I was planning on heading to the meet up in redwood city. But my front was sitting on a pair of mismatched, janky spares. I probably could have got what I needed at the meet up for peanuts. Oh well, that's what I get for trying to show off.
