When I fill up my tank my gauge reads full for a couple days. Then it'll drop from full to empty over the course of 1 or 2 days and then stay there until I fill up again. Basically once there's 9 or 10 gallons left in the tank, the gauge reads empty.

I tested my gauge by grounding the sending unit wire to the chassis and the needle moved up and read full and fell back down slowly once I removed the ground.

Do you guys vote for a float issue or sending unit pot issue? I'd just like to have parts on hand once I get the unit out. I don't want to just buy a new sender because it seems like everything thats sold these days is junk, so I'd like to be able to fix my original parts if possible.

It's not the float, it's the potentiometer.

Damn, is there any way to replace it or is it a specialty pot that only comes with a new sender?
