Hi Rick.
An aluminum heat shield along with a thicker, insulating gasket between shield and carb, may be a good thing to install. The shield can be made with an extention to block off some heat under the fuel pipe too. Check for the hood/air cleaner clearance before slamming the hood shut afterwards!

It may also contribute to even more consistent times between your runs with a hot engine.

Ryan and I will head out Saturday to do a test & tune before our race next week.The Valiant has not had any major improvements done since it was last run. I'd like to go a little faster though!

Question, The weather should be 25-30 degrees cooler than when I ran 14.70. If that is the case should I do anything to my tune to take advantage of that temp? Should I just run as is first? Should I try to richen up the secondary a bit? Timing changes or leave alone.

Can I expect to run .2 faster with good air. Really like to get under 14.5 as it is.

Is it too soon to know the weather report for next weekend ? This is a BIG IF but I may be able to come next week as I will be in PA.
For your Question,,another question.Do you keep a log book?
If you do, you can compair weather statistics and how well or not your car was running on a particular date/weather and know what changes were made if any.My brother in law runs a super comp car and by reading the log book chart he can pretty much tell if he needs to step it up or tone it down to run his 8.90 number.Like anything it takes practice but can really take the guess work out of race day. Just a thought...

I have only had the car out about 4 times. I do right down any changes I make and how I drove the car, RPM, shift points...etc. No official "log" book. I am not that good yet.

Rick, I would imagine you'll be 0.2 faster in that air, but it'll depend on how close your jetting is. Not knowing where you're starting, you should run it first and t'n't the jets before you can know how to adjust for air changes.
