Jack Poehler had a rather poor VCR copy when I visted him many years ago. In 1960 they hadn't even invented video tape yet so most TV of that vintage is of pretty poor quality. There is alot of good written coverage and pictures of those races, the only thing the TV showed was Marvin Panch joining the oval track race late after changing rear ends between the two races and then gong faster than the others.

EG,
Thanks....if you can lead me in the direction of any particularly good reference material that gives details about the way the cars were equiped and modified I would greatly appreciate it. I can dig up some old articles that I copied at the library many years ago to refresh my memory. Would be neat to know how the brakes were set up, rear end (I assume they were running the 7 1/4 differential...what about sure grip) etc.....thanks

the Fords and Chevys had to bow to mighty MOPAR!

In fact the first seven places were taken by Valiants... It was so dull and boring that CBS cancelled any future coverage of the Compact Series races... One would think that the Chrysler folks would have tried capitalized on their hands-down victory with a great advertising campaign or some such, but nothing was ever mentioned again.
And slant sixes to boot!

Thanks for the info and links, folks!

Nick (Valleyant) has a pretty good headstart on makin' himself one of them early Valiant Nascar replicas.

Here are the pics of your score!

Your idea of a Nascar Valiant is very cool! 8)

The May 1960 Issue of Sports Cars Illustrated had a very good article about the Daytona Valaints with many technical details. Bill Weertman's extensive articles about the slant six engine which were reprinted in the Slant Six News also has a lot of information about the Daytona engines. Many other magazines featured articles about the Daytona race or the Hyper Pak Valiants in the 60-61 period.
