Okey Dokey, here are the updated points following the Clay City race.

There was a little bit of movement around mid pack.

The biggest jump was Lou Madsen becoming the new points leader for the East Coasters by winning the event on Saturday.

Lukus Bruner climbed to fourth followed by Meril Bruner and Rookie Jack Everhardt.

Jack is now just a couple round wins away from Rookie leader Frank Funk, so he will be towing his cool yellow '75 Duster up to Mason-Dixon for the final race of the season to see if he can take top Rookie honors.

Mason-Dixon is home territory for Frank Funk, so hopefully we'll see a hotly contested final finish in the Rookie of the Year contest.

Rob Simmons was FINALLY able to put some real points on the board after a long 9 years of waiting. He won a round on Saturday and the event on Sunday.

Gary and Courtney Bruner shared driving chores and put some points on the board with Gary winning a round on Sunday.

Rookie Chase Simmons was there honing his driving skills by making 20 passes throughout the weekend.

Nick Stavale showed up Sunday to bump our total car count for the year to 75! :D

Here is the updated list:

There's just one race left in the 2012 season!

Will East Coaster Lou Madsen be able to climb further up the National Ladder? It is feasible that Lou could win both days at Mason Dixon to take over 2nd place from Killer Bee Andrew "Kidd" Howard!

With just a couple round wins he will land in the number 3 spot.

Will Rookie Leader Frank Funk show up in another borrowed Covalt Clan vehicle with hopes of securing the Rookie of the Year title?

Will Rookie Jack Everhardt make the tow to Mason-Dixon with his faithful crew chief son Jackie to give Frank Funk a run for his money?

Will the "Oh So Low" Notchback Barracuda of Will Burns have its new turbo motor buttoned up and ready to wow the crowds?

Will Ryan Covalt finally get a chance to try out his nifty new toy given to him by Seymour Pederson? Ryan certainly tried hard to get the beautiful blue Valiant on track this year by towing to TWO rained out races that were both 10 or more hours from home!

Mason-Dixon is the Covalt Clan's race, so hopefully Ryan will get to debut his new toy in front of the home crowd.

Will Rick Covalt and the Covalt Clan be able to garner enough support for another 50 point race at this final race of the season? They're certainly trying to!

All of these questions (and many more  ) will be answered right here in just a couple weeks! :D

So stay tuned!!

I'm Rob "Snagglepuss" Simmons, your Slant 6 "Laff-A-Lympics" Drag Racing commentator, with this latest report as we get ready to wind up our 2012 racing season.

Thanks a bunch for the update, Rob. We can definitely see the effects of the East Coast rainouts. Hopefully we'll have a nice turnout at M-D. Maybe Frank Funk will be the first rookie to take a National Championship??

Lou

Here are the answered questions pertaining to the final race of our 2012 season:

Will East Coaster Lou Madsen be able to climb further up the National Ladder? It is feasible that Lou could win both days at Mason Dixon to take over 2nd place from Killer Bee Andrew "Kidd" Howard!

With just a couple round wins he will land in the number 3 spot.

Lou had other commitments on Saturday, but planned to race on Sunday... Unfortunately, the East Coast had yet another cancelled race due to a forecast of rain (even though it didn't rain after all  )

Will Rookie Leader Frank Funk show up in another borrowed Covalt Clan vehicle with hopes of securing the Rookie of the Year title?

YES HE DID!! :D He not only showed up,... He won the race! Not bad for a Rookie Racer. He's won 12 of his 13 rounds! Welcome to Slant 6 Racing Frank!! It's good to have ya!

Not only that,... He is our 2012 East Coast Champion and Rookie of the Year!! :D

Will Rookie Jack Everhardt make the tow to Mason-Dixon with his faithful crew chief son Jackie to give Frank Funk a run for his money?

Jack towed up there, but got shut down in the first round. Not sure who took him out.

Will the "Oh So Low" Notchback Barracuda of Will Burns have its new turbo motor buttoned up and ready to wow the crowds?

Will had it together in time and made some very impressive shake down runs spinning the tires through third gear and running in the 11's!! Once he gets it dialed in look for him to re-set that A/Unlimited record.

Will was even able to win two rounds while sorting out his new turbo combination! :D

Ryan FINALLY made some passes!! :D 11.80s first time out. Must feel good to play with his new toy after so many tries.

Will Rick Covalt and the Covalt Clan be able to garner enough support for another 50 point race at this final race of the season? They're certainly trying to!

Hurricane Sandy weather forecast kept several people away and caused the track to cancel Sunday's race on Saturday... :(

I'm Rob "Snagglepuss" Simmons, your Slant 6 "Laff-A-Lympics" Drag Racing commentator, with the FINAL report as we come to the end of our 2012 racing season.

Goodness Gracious.
How did that happen?

Next year, I hope to be pulling a MadMax. Faster!

Hope for at least one round win in '13!

I'll take all the nuts, bolts and odd slant parts out of the cup before I deliver it to the next champion. Race hard! :D

Thanks for all of this, Rob!

I count 76 racers this year, up substantially from last year. 34 East and 42 West. That is very encouraging...

Congrats to CJ and Frank Funk!

See a bunch of you at the banquet in Pigeon Forge, TN on 9/22!

Lou

Yeah, a pretty good year of racing overall (with the exception of all the East Coast rain outs)

We even had 22 Rookies!! :D

76 Racers tied with 2010 for our 4th biggest year.

Our best three were:

2007 @ 85
2008 @ 85
2009 @ 79

Here's to an even bigger, better (and drier! ) 2013!! :D

:D

The Volunteers association has come on as a "Sponsor" of the new car. I can paint it red and put the logo on there. Now all I need is a light bar in the place of a wing!
