Sounds good. I was there and ready to race Sunday morning, so I feel like I deserve a point for a 500 mi roundtrip. Anyone else in my boat?

Lou

Well, This may need to go to another "rules" topic so that everyone can discuss it and find it. But I am just glad this has no bearing on the championship. It definitely needs to be settled before 2013 begins.

I will give my opinion, but I am not sure I should be making the final call here. I am willing to abide by Seymour's thoughts if need be.

Under "points" in the rules it says:
Quote:
-Your car is in the pits and is entered in the Slant 6 bracket race, for each race entered (unlimited): 1 point.
By a plain reading of this rule, none of us were in the pits and none of us had paid to race, so none of us should get a point.

But, From the rules under "Races/Events"
Quote:
-If a race is postponed and rescheduled for the next day or another weekend, points will still be awarded but only to those racers that actually line up for the first round of the rescheduled race. In these cases a new first round ladder including only the participants present will be drawn up. One additional point will be awarded to anyone who was present before the postponement.
By Seymour's statement this was not written to address our current situation with planned 2 day races. The first part of the rule does not really apply because our race was not postponed or rescheduled, it was cancelled the night before the race. The last part of that rule (the one additional point...) is what causes confusion. Plus I can think of several different ways that this can get more confusing.

Example: Charles was coming Sunday. But could not make it Saturday. But when he saw the weather forecast he changed his schedule around and raced Saturday to support our race. So he got 1 point. But he was planning to come Sunday, but because of the storm he decided to stay home . So does he get a point for Sunday? I don't know.

It seems to me a lot of this is based on peoples intentions, and I am not sure any of us can get those right all the time.

Again, I don't care either way, but we need a solid answer before next season.

If you are going to give the points to those who were planning to race Sunday, Will and Charles were not coming back. Everyone else was.

Greg Ondayko went to heroic efforts to be here on Sunday and his car was driven in a week ahead of time to be here, just for Sunday, so he should get a point too.

Sorry for the long post, it is just not cut and dried in my opinion.

Rick

Like you say the old rules never contemplated double race weekends. The rules you site are about races that were cancelled after people showed up but then were rescheduled to another day. The rules say that only those showing up for the rescheduled race are put on the ladder. Further any car who showed up for the original race but did not make the rescheduled race gets one point. No other points are awarded for the original race.

To get the one point you had to actually be in the pits on one or both days. We never contemplated points for intentions or being on the way but thing are different with two day races and this should be hashed out again at this year's meeting.

Lets do what Seymour suggested. Give the 1 point for Sunday to everyone who was here on Saturday with the exception of those who told me they were not coming back. Also 1 point for Lou and Greg who came on Sunday.

Hopefully everyone is Ok with that and we will decide the future at the banquet.

Thanks,
Rick

Sounds good to me.

I am thinking we make it 10pts for attendance to show up for the weekend, period. No separate points for each attended day of racing on a given weekend, just show up for one or both.

Here is a video link to the Slant Six 2012 Mason Dixon Race Saturday.
Frank Funk was the race winner. Will Burns also tries out the turbo barracuda for the first time.

Hopefully the link works. Also i posted the spring race (sunday only) to you tube as well. You should be able to get to both videos from this link. If it doesn't work right let me know.

I'm glad the link worked.
I think Wills last pass scared everyone watching. His car did not blow up, he seemed to think the boost pressure was pressurizing the crankcase because it kept blowing the breather out and spraying oil everywhere. I think he said about adding a vacuum pump to get rid of the pressure. That car is going to fly when it it finished!!

Dad, I was going to edit the video and put an arrow that said "watch for the big red light" but I didn't want to point it out too much.

Sorry I didn't make it. It had more to do with borrowing a tow vehicle than the weather so I didn't push the issue. My car is staying there so I'll try again next spring.
