While looking for other things I learned that a Northstar head has 4" bore centers. The Oldsmobile shared our 3.40 bore.
The intake and exhaust cams share the same grind and early models were hollow shaft with lobes swaged on. They could probably be cut, clocked and welded to our firing order and length.
Also, newer models had VVT-16 degrees each cam.

Biggest problem seems like distributor clearance, but a small dilemma in the grand scheme.

I was thinking of cutting up a couple DOHC Neon heads. Might have to use water manifolds, but so what?

As to exact head bolt spacing I've only researched a little on the web so I don't know yet. I wish I had a slant on a stand to do some mock ups. If the Northstar idler gear can be adapted to fit our camshaft, it seems like all the major hurdles are past. I did see flow numbers posted but I don't know how to read them.
The cool factor of a HEMI is too much to just walk past.

If you want a DOHC slant six, then drop A 3.5l Bimmer motor in. I believe that Volvo made a SOHC slant six, at least I saw one in the junk yard. Lots of options, you just need to get creative.

The Jaguar six also has 4 inch bore spacing but the bolt pattern is wider because of the dual camshafts.

I can tell you for a fact, that nissan RB25/26 heads are waaaay too short,and so is the toyota 7M, 1JZ, 2JZ, the neon head needs to be cut up too much (2.0 SOHC, DOHC and 2.4), the closet i have found is the DOHC 2.7 chrysler engines

I think the head bolt pattern will be the issue with any double overhead cam head. Except for that big detail the Jag head "fits" , except that some of the Mopar bores are offset a little. The weakness of the long stroke Jag was the head can out breethe the block, very mild cams were used. They made the blocks boat anchor heavy to keep from cracking at high RPM. Other than the novelty of the swap, I think that a turbo would be much better. In my junk yard rambles I found that the Supra 7MGE head would similarly "fit" on the Dodge 218 flathead, with the issue of the siamezed bores making it impractical as well. My choice? Swap the 7M for the flatty and have almost 3 times as much power, similar mid range speed torque with lots more RPM potential.
