Hi Guys, I need to throw a proposed Wilkesboro race date out there for discussion. It is June 15th. which is 3 weeks after Mason Dixon. Danny Dunn called me today to let me know he will not be able to wait until the last of Feb. to set the date because his season starts a couple of weeks from then. He has to have his schedule completed in a few days for his website and print media. He will have the Gearjammers there that date which will bring more spectators for us. I think I can work out a Friday night race at Elk Creek if the majority of us would like to do that. If we do that we would have a 2 race weekend. Elk Creek is about an hour from Wilkesboro. In any event I want to impress upon everyone to come to Empire Dodge Saturday morning with a huge number of slant six cars to show Tim our appreciation for his outstanding support for over a decade.
If everyone is in favor we would also like to make this a Dale Rose Memorial Race. Dale always came to Wilkesboro and Myra said she would be happy if we did this for him. Please give your thoughts. Thanks Ron

I like It..

Although I cannot predict My attendance yet with summer work schedules etc.

Dale Rose Memorial Sounds Good as Well.

I believe The First/ Last Wilkesboro Race I attended was the First Racing Season For Ruster.. and We had a Disimal 5 Car Showing at Empire :-)

I wish it to be better for this year!

Greg

That sounds pretty ideal to me, Ron, especially the Fri eve at Elk Creek, show Saturday morn, and race Sat at NW.

I like it, but won't know if the money will be there for me to make it. So can't commit. Will do it if I can.

Ron I will try my best to have the 61 Valiant ready to travel long distance by then. Elaine and I like the idea of a Dale Rose Memorial race especially since he owned the Valiant. Also I will try to get Donnie Edwards who is Dales brother in law to come.He has a valiant also that he bought from Myra not a slant but 340 car. Hope I can get back home in March and get busy working on the car and raising some cash for this fun weekend.

Best, Lou

That date looks good to me. I spoke to Ryan about coming down and he said the he would probably come too. Mine is somewhat dependent on me finding something with a little more power to tow my race car with. I don't think my slant 6 truck would make it very well up over the mountain to Elk Creek.

Yes, I will likely be able to borrow a truck. But let's see... With a .450 lift cam, headers, 4barrel and some pocket porting and the head cut .060, I should gain 50 HP. So, It may just be able to tow??  I'd feel better if I was towing with a 4-speed.

Rick, it is a hard pull, but you should be able to do it. I did Elk Creek in 2011 with my Toyota.

It is either 96 or 98 HP (new) don't remember. As for gears, I only used one on that mountain, 3rd at 35mph for the whole 7 miles.

By the way Rick from your direction there arn't any real bad pulls coming to Elk Creek and Wilkesboro. Going back from Wilkesboro you have Fancy Gap Mountain on I-77, about a 6% grade which isnt too bad but it is about 5 miles long. Just gear it down take you time and enjoy the view over Mt Airy.
