How about head gasket fire ring issues?
I just did this head/block mock up on mine today and checked the gasket fit too. I noticed the fire ring on the generic Felpro gasket might actually protrude if I were to go .060" with a oem style chamfer atop the bores. I'm only going .040" and it should be fine but it looks close. Where does the 'big bore' gasket come into play?

Never knew it was called that. It is going to be a few months before EVERYTHING is done so no test fitting yet.

I don't know if there's a proper name but that's what I've always called them. My project has taken a while too, so it was a relief to get to this mock up. I tried both the heads I have here, a '66 and a '83 and they both had very good fit to the bores on my '66 block.

Be careful with the 83 head as I understand it the lifters were changed to hydraulic. I know I saw both mechanical and hydraulic cams but I am not sure you can use the adjustable rockers with hydraulic lifters or not.

They won't oil properly causing issues, so in a nutshell, no you can't.

Thank you for the clarification Duster Idiot. I did not think you could but I was not sure. Spragg had mentioned he had test fitted both a 66 and 83 head. I knew there was a difference between the 2.

I think I'm OK by slipping just the head between the existing stuff, the original mechanical rockers/shaft/pushrods/hardware will stay. I think the only real/major difference is I won't be able to pull the lifters with the HYD '83 type head bolted on, I don't think they will fit up through the smaller oil drain-back area over the lifter galley.
