Hi guys, I was doing some fine tuning of the carb idle and mixture and noticed that the car ran better and smoother with the driver side vacuum port open to atmosphere vs hooked up to the nipple on the air cleaner.
This is all being done on a 72 dart custom with 225 all original engine compartment. It doesn't make sense to me?????

Any ideas?

Your running way too rich if that is the case.

If the mixture screw is properly tuned, pulling the vacuum hose off provides a significant vacuum leak. My car will quit when you pull off the hose.....idle in neutral is at 750 rpm per the sticker on the fender. My mixture screw is about 2 turns with a #56 jet. Initial timing is set at 10 degrees.

Thanks, I guess I just have to fiddle with the mixture some more.
