I did conquer the headlight dimming, pulsing, throbbing problem on my 64 Dart by going to a two wire voltage regulator.
I had tried everything suggested to improve my grounding and wiring, before I took that approach.

I can’t explain why I got such better results with the two wire VR . My understanding is that regulates the field current on the ground side. I am not sure whether that is any different than grounding the second field terminal.

I did relocate the voltage regulator nearer the alternator. While I had done the ground wire from the alternator case to the VR before I did that relocation, I have to suspect that a better ground between the VR and the Alt may have been the only change that mattered.

The two wire VR is less expensive than the VR 1001’s (3 of them) which I had tried.

One thing I learned was that grounding out the field wire on a powered up VR will short it out. When you do the full field test set it up with everything shut off.
