Well the bearing in my water pump is starting to get a little noisy so I know I will be replacing it in the near future. So my question is what brand and or parts store do I get, I don't want to be replacing a cheap one a couple of years later. It's for my 73 225 with AC. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would go to www.rockauto.com and spend a whole $21 plus shipping on a GATES Part # 43025.

I'll bet it is still made in China, or somewhere like that.
Personally, I would check local prices, and see how it compares to rockauto with shipping figured in. Go for new, not rebuilt, but it is still a crapshoot.

I got the GATES from RockAuto, and yes it was made in China, but it is a really nice casting and the impeler is made of thick sheet steel. All in All as good a water pump as you could ask for, for the price. The bearing is the only part I would question... I guess I'll know in a few thousand miles.

Probably is made in China. Is anything NOT made in China these days? If you want American made your best bet would be to get in touch with a NOS parts house like Old Car Parts Northwest or Arizona Parts.

I did look at the ones on Rock Auto and I also checked out one that Napa offers new. The descriptions are the same between the Gates and the Napa one except the Napa is a aluminum body would there be any problems with a aluminum one or would it be better for cooling? The price on the Napa would be the same as the RA shipped.

Gates is aluminum, and I believe they make the water pumps for NAPA.

I was dreaming of doing my own rebuild the other day, not to save the money but to save the original pump casting (by 'original' I mean the actual assembly line part). Has anyone tried that on these?

I pressed a couple of pumps apart thinking I would take the best housing and the best impeller and put it back together with a new bearng from Purvis. Shafts were all different sizes, so now I have a pile of waterpump parts sitting in the floor. The New GATES pump is really well made and inexpensive. Thats the reason I went with it.
