Hello everyone,

I'm in a bit of a dilemma as I own a 1961 Dodge Lancer with power steering and at first, a new seal would stop the leaks, but now the shaft must be worn enough, so that I either have to have the power steering gearbox rebuilt, or come up with some other solution. Of course, a power steering gearbox off of a 1960 or 1961 Plymouth Valiant should work. Does anyone out there have one for sale or should I just have the gearbox rebuilt? It has the 225 slant six engine and automatic transmission. What would you suggest, thanks, Jerry7777.

Jerry7777, I see you have no replies. I'm sorry that I can't help - but here's a bump that may bring a reply.
Good Luck
Gary

Hi to All,

I wanted to thank all that responed to my problem. I deceided to send the power steering gearbox to a rebuilder near my home. I also sent the power steering pump to be rebuilt. I took both parts out by myself, which is a first for me. I want to thank Aussie Plymouths(Gary fromDownunder) 64 ragtop and WJAJR who all had useful information. There are very few power steering gearboxes out there for 60, 61 Valiants and the 61 Lancer. They are mounted on the sidewall and my advice to anyone else with the same challenge is to have the power steering gearbox rebuilt. I have such a beautiful 1961 Dodge Lancer but will just have to be patient while these two parts are being rebuilt. But for now I will use my 62 Lancer and 63 Valiant. Isn't the slant six engine the very best ever built?!
