I used these guys back in 2000 when I was piecing together my T5 setup. Cheap, nice parts, friendly folks. Will sell individual pieces...

One of the great things about living in LA was all the auto specialty shops (and junkyards) within a short drive.

Think I got a Mustang disc, Mopar PP, TOB for like $130.

Hey Lou thanks for the help and info. After talking to a few different shops/companies I ended up finding a clutch set for a 1986 ford mustang 2.3l its a 8 7/8s disk but the pressure plate is the same as the 9inch mustang pressure plate. I will be redrilling my flywheel to bolt the Mustang setup on it. The price of the set up was actully cheaper than a few places quoted me for just a disc. By having the flywheel drilled for the mustang set up that allows me to step up latter on to a higher horse power rating when I need it. There is a bunch of coupanies that make clutches for the 2.3l mustangs like spec, centerforce or ram.

Sounds great. Make sure you get a careful and qualified shop to redrill your flywheel, or vibration and breakage will happen (if off center).

Dragging this back from the dead to ask a (dumb) question, but seeing as how I've never even replaced a clutch before...

To those who've done the swap: Just to clarify, in order to install the T-5 behind a slant (I've already got the bellhousing), which parts are T-5/Mustang specific, and which need to remain slant parts? I'm talking flywheel, pressure plate, etc., everything except the trans itself. Can someone list which is which?

Your project may differ....

I used the slant flywheel and pressure plate....slant clutch linkage and TO bearing. I also used a slant aluminum bellhousing (modified)

I used Mustang clutch disc and trans with Mustang driveshaft yoke on a slant driveshaft.

My set up is stock 3speed bellhousing with mustang plate bolted on, stock linkage, mustang T-5, 66 mustang Throw out bearing, stock 3 speed flywheel, turbo mustang clutch disc and pressure plate, mustang drive shaft shortened to bolt to 8.8 out back. But my system is all so still in pieces waiting for my flywheel to get redrilled to the mustang bolt pattern. Its been a year now so I am temped to just get a new stock presure plate and bolt it all together. The reason I am wanting to use the mustang PP is to have even pressure applied to the clutch from the diaphram PP and also save on buying one kit down the road when it comes time to redo the clutch.

I was just thinking about this part of my project the other day and was woundering if there was ever a stock 9.25 diaphram style clutch pressure plate.

That sounds like a good idea, too. Any quotes on getting your flywheel redrilled? Since I don't have a flywheel yet, I might just look for a vendor who can sell me one AND drill a Mustang bolt pattern. Just wondering what to expect, cost-wise.

Thanks, Mike!

I used Mopar PP and fly and Mustang disc, and McLeod(slave)/Wilwood(master) T5 hydraulic TOB setup. Used stock Mopar 10" PP and stock Mustang 5.0L disc on 1st run, then switched to 9" McLeod PP and disc (better holding power, longer life). The latter setup is still bolted up to my older (now spare/backup) engine.

I am about to put this together again with a new engine, Spec 9" clutch (mopar PP side and mustang disc) and Wilcap alum fly.

Glad to hear of your experience with Spec. I have debated whether to send this back before even trying it. I guess I will try it first. This new engine will make 250 ft-lbs or more.

Do you know if they are upgrading all of the new pressure plates with this spring? About everyone that I have heard about here on the sight has had "issues" with slippage. It would be nice if they did upgrade it.

Lou, Are you ready to use yours right now? If not I think I wold talk to Spec and see if they won't upgrade yours. That is a lot of work for something that is likely to slip if past experience holds.

Yeah, I am maybe going to put the engine/trans in the car tomorrow. I could wait and call them I guess...

When I sent my presure plate back they added like half a diaphram spring along with the full spring, it kind of works like a shim on the full diaphram spring, I wish I would of taken a pic of it. If yours dosn't have that I would check with them
