Hey guys, my first car is a 76 dart sport with a 225. I've upgraded from my crapper 1 barrel ( which actualy had 'junk' wrote on it) to a super six. This is my goals so far: ofset grind my rod journals, achieve a 9.5:1 comp, install a good cam, a gatorcharger, do some minor head porting and polish, and a 5spd od conversion would be amzing if I can. What do you guys think?

I hink there might be the possibility of me having a cast crank. If so, how much boost can it handle, if any? And were there any 5spd ods that came factory behind slantys? (My uncle says he had a truck with one)

If the car is running now, I would upgrade the brakes and suspension first, then make it go Fast!

What's the car going to be? Commuter, grocery getter, cruiser, drag racer, autocrosser, aversion therapy ...? Performance/capability goals?

Four speeds are around, five speeds can be done. I don't know about factory 5-speed OD's, but if they exist someone here does.

Oh, and please post some photos as the Dart progresses.

The dart is very close to running, and it will be my daily driver to high School,and votech. I would like to get at least 25+ mpg. I am also looking for suspension/brake upgrades. As of right now it has new oe shocks, otherwise orig suspension, and 4 manual drums. I know sway bars would be a good ugrade, but I was wondering what to do bout the brakes

Disc Brakes, Bigger Drums, New Ball Joints, Bigger Tie-Rods, Front Swaybar...for starters

What's the date on the silver sticker on the end of the driver's door?

And the 4 wheel drums...are they 9's all around, 10" front, 9" rear, 10" all around?

I'm curious to know.

DusterIdiot: I'm not home right now, but I believe the date on my door is 9-75, and as for the brakes, I don't know off the top of my head. I've put new shoes on it few months ago (they were shot) and it stops decently now

The brake and suspension upgrades, done properly, make driving safer and more enjoyable, no matter how tame or wild your engine is. Address any shortcomings there first. Disk brakes up front are a good thing. Fresh bushings and good tires, too. Sway bars are nice, but down the list.

Your '76 already has a lot of the upgrades and niceties that we narrow-body owners work toward. Not a bad place to start! Yeah, it has a few disadvantages (weight comes to mind), but nothing you can't overcome. Besides, Dart Sports just look good!

25 MPG highway is doable, but will take both modification of the vehicle and discipline in the driving and maintenance. Intake, exhaust, transmission and gearing, tire choice, weight loss, aerodynamics, precise engine tuning, the safer of the techniques from hypermiling ...

25 MPG city is very unlikely with this car/engine but I'd like to see it happen.

I know this is quite a stretch, but I was wondering if after a mpfi conversion, how hard would it be to constuct a cylinder drop-off be? Just throwing that out there...

Cylinder deactivation or Variable Displacement gets pretty complicated, pretty quickly. There's a lot of things to tinker with and sort out before getting into reengineering the valvetrain.

MPEFI has a lot of potential as an upgrade for Slant Sixes. It's in the plans for my Valiant.

Looks good, you will be on the look out for the correct 1976 Grille (Dodge and Plymouth had "amber" lenses in the grille for that year only -1975 model year would be clear lenses and amber tinted bulbs).
