the engine in the lancer finally deteriorated so its time for an engine swap. is it possible to take the k framee motor and disk brake set up from a 74 valiant and swap it over with out alot fo severe headaches and modifications. the only kicker is that the motor has a 4bbl and headers. both cars have power steering and are both automatics.

The K member on the later As are wider.....to accomodate big blocks.

I think DionR narrowed a late A K,,,,,,,

I did that kind of swap into a '67, left the K and all the stuff attached to it...A tow truck jib was needed to support and stabilize the loaded K-member as a mechanic's jack won't hold the K and items due to the bottom of the K being to far forward for proper balance. I've also done it with just the brakes/steering attached and it was just as fun with the jack.

But as Sandy said, the K-members are different so you will need to pull the K to modify or transfer all the stuff from the donor to the target car. (#2 is the best choice, since you still have to unload and remove the T-bars to pull the full K or the parts in the transfer anyway.

(Technically the "easy" way would have been to have a street rod, use a Volare/Aspen front end- unbolt and roll under the street rod and bolt it back up. Sadly stock A-bodies aren't as easy.)

The later K-member won't fit. The headers may or may not fit. The intake doesn't matter until it's time to connect the throttle linkage. Easiest thing to do is to pull your engine, pull the oil pan, oil pickup tube, and the manifolds. Put those items on the replacement engine. If you have an automatic you'll need a bushing in the back of the crank to support the torque converter. If you have a manual trans you'll need a '68+ flywheel.

thanks for the input i was planning on bolting the 74 motor to the 1962 transwill i still need that bushing
