I’m contemplating constructing some sort of finished trunk panel arrangement.

Has anyone here installed any type of trunk dress up, or installed some type of barrier between trunk, and folding top to isolate trunk road noise from and cabin? If so any photos of your arrangement would be welcome.

I sewed up a trunk liner for the Valaint a few years ago. We were transporting expensive racing snowboards .

I used houseboat carpeting , It is waterproof.... and quite rigid. I made templates out of cardboard ......taped it all together.......cut the corners.

I cut the carpet using the template to form a bottom and 4 sides then sewed it up on the corners. Years later it still looks great .

It comes in many colours and is cheaper than auto carpet.

So far I have mocked up card board templates in need of a little fine tuning. Next step will to be to transfer to Masonite for a final fitting and trial fasten in place. I’m thinking of upholstering Masonite with lightly padded vinyl, and carpeting on trunk floor.

I have been struggling with the new Photobucket format where old setup was a few clicks, new revamped “improvedâ€￾ requires many clicks, seeing same add each time a new image is selected to be added, more clicks to get image code… What a PIA this site has turned into. Sorry dear reader, I had to get this off my chest.

Below is finished refreshing of trunk tail trim. Removed dents, dings, scratches, anodizing on top & bottom trim two section strips and repainted the whole mess:

Before, only separation between trunk and cabin is an ill-fitting well liner that top folds into allowing free movement of air, and road noise into cabin. The effect is not unlike driving a station wagon with rear window rolled down:

Below photos show black vinyl covered Masonite panels flanking quarter panels, and separating acoustically & minimizing air transfer between trunk and cabin.

The division between trunk and cabin has thick fiber carpet underlayment glued to cabin side, and same padding wraps around continuing vertically over top of wheel well isolating 99% of trunk from cabin. This project has all but eliminated exhaust fumes from entering cabin when a window is cracked open, and drastically reduced road and exhaust noise while under way. The car is much more pleasurable to ride in with the top up

I haven’t found a suitable chunk of carpet to cover floor of trunk (read cheap enough).

Looks very nice, and the added safety and comfort can't be beat. How about indoor/outdoor carpeting from a home improvement store? Fairly cheap yet durable.

Thanks, it's a possibility. Whatever I use I need to have the raw edges bound for a finished look, and no foam backing.

I took the old heap for a ten mile ride today out on the open road after repairing an exhaust leak under a clump of previous owner’s bubble gum welding job just aft of the collector; PIA job as all these little ones tend to be. LOL She is much quieter and stink free, however rocker noise is more auditable now. “Feelherâ€￾ gages come out tomorrow, and I give her a good lashing. LOL

First car show of the season May 5, I have to be ready.

I have just what you need! Check out these guys. I think a remnant of "sunny yellow" would really make your trunk pop! Or you could be conservative and go with "pitch black." The only problem is you would have to find a mini-rake.

Early Dart Disorder (EDD) is real, and I've got it!

I’m afraid that stuff is OE carpet for an early seventies Shaguare there Austin, or a shag’en wagon. However nothing like a lot of deep pile to soak up sound waves.

I might have a mini rake, I did have one, hummm; must have got pitched in the last move… Oh well.

By the way, ever eat at Poky Joe’s BBQ joint?
