New to the forum and new Valiant owner. Among my many things to do I want to fix my dash pad asap. But, I was wondering if anyone knows what the metal looks like underneath it. Was thinking of just going no Dash Pad but don't know if there are gaps and whatnot in the metal. Any info would be great.

I've googled the crap out of it and have come up with not a lot, and I've used the search function here I swear!

Thanks all!

Yeah, on the 1967-1976 dashes the pad is held on by a number of sheet metal formed nuts. The metal part hidden by the pad has a number of open slots in it. If I remember tomorrow while in my shop, I'll snap a picture of a typical dash without a pad fer ya!

Forgot I stuffed most of the dashboards behind a set of fenders and bumpers in the corner, hope this helps a bit...

This is looking from the inside of the dash to the outside, the dash pad is installed, but the brown rectangles should provide the visual of what to expect from the passenger side to about where the hole for the instrument cluster is:

Perfect, thank you for the pics. Guess that rules out going no dash pad. Time to cut/sand/attempt to flatten the old one for a cover.
