Okay so I am getting to the end of this build and I am preparing to install and realized I don't have engine mounts.

I have 2 questions.
1) Will the brackets from my 65 engine mount to the 68 engine?
2) If I but a set of spool mounts how can I make them work?

(1) Yes, they will.
(2) By cutting the spool mounts off of a 73+ K-frame and welding them onto the k-frame in your 65. Even then I am not 100% positive there is the clearance or spool mounts. I could be wrong though and there may be plenty of clearance. There is no stock k-frame that has spool mounts and will bolt into your 65 body.

Could I cut the top of a piece of square tubing off drill some holes and mount it that way?

The stock mounting is a single bolt to the k member. So my idea is to cut one side of a piece of square tubing off drill a hole in the bottom with either a stud or bolt/washer then 2 holes on the outer edges to slide the spool mount into. the bolt it all together.

Rather than going to all that trouble, use these and forget about it for the next 40 years.

Unless you are upgrading the bushing in the spool mount or welding washers to the outside to make a solid mount, the spool mount doesn't offer any more damping of the engine over the sandwich mount (I have dents in my hood to show that india and chinese rubber did not do as well as the Poly spool inserts). The only advantages I can see with the 1973-1980 spool mounts are having a 'captured' washer in case the bolt loosens, and that they are usually easy to get in 24 hours at most cheap autoparts stores.

The problem is I do not have another set of engine brackets. So I was looking for a full set. I can pull them off my existing engine if I need to but I figured for 40 some dollars I could by the spools.

Do you need a set of sandwich engine mounts? The metal brackets that bolt to the bloc, not the actual rubber mounts?

Yes the metal brackets that mount to the car. Like I said I could pull of fmy existing engine but then that leaves it with out mounts.

The metal brackets bolt to the motor. The biscuit goes between the mount and frame pad.

Spool mounts are useless in an early A unless you are a real good fabricator.

Your 68 motor will also need the pan and pickup from the old motor, and a spacer in the crank if it's an auto.
