I'm on the ground trying to install a 1969 slant six 904 transmission into our 1968 Hemi clone, I purchased a used 1971-76? torque converter, and it seems the torque converter snout will not go into the flywheel?

am I missing something?

Time to break out the dial caliper and look at the ID of the crank pocket, and the OD of the convertor snout. Sounds like maybe the 1969 has a pre-68 crank installed, and the convertor is a 70's convertor?

the cars a 1968, but the motor may be another year I can not remember, I did look it up once. the trans is a 1969, but the torque converter is 1970's it did fit the trans but having issues with the snout ...

The hole in the end of the crank changed size between 1967 and 1968. Later year is bigger. Sounds like you have a 67 or older engine. The trans, and converter also changed at the same time. The pilot on the converter is larger and the input splines on the trans, and in the converter are different. Your choices are:
1) Get a 1966 or 67 trans and converter.
2)Have a special converter built, with the small pilot and big splines. They are available.
3) use a 68 up engine
4) install a 68 up crank in your engine

PS: What year is the trans? A 68 up converter will go into the 67 down trans, but the splines will not engage. If your trans is a 67 down just get a early converter.
67 down trans has 19 splines on the input shaft, the 68 up has 27 splines.

Are you trying to use the converter with the decal on it? The one in your picture? That converter will not work in a 69 trans. That converter is for a lockup trans. There were no lockup transmisions that early.

I'm using a converter I purchased from Rick, I think he stated it was a 1971.
The transmission came from a slant six 1969 Dart that we parted out. I will need to id the engine on that, which is on an engine stand.

also will id the motor in our 1968 Hurst Hemi dart....

physically tried to put the torque converter into the crank hole.
torque converter is the large one , the crank hole is small.

can I have my machinist turn down the torque converter snout safely ?

since the trans has a reverse manual valve body and machine work for a trans act brake. that took time and $$.

I have the old trans and it is the low count spline, it is shot.

either I machine the torque converter snout or build a new trans with a correct torque converter.

and that's $$$ time 4sure.
