Greetings, I just bought a 1960 Dodge D100 pickup. It seems that they put on new brake linings without replacing the front hub oil seals. I now have some grease on the brake lining. (they were grabbing) Two questions:
1. Is it possible to sand off the grease from the brake lining?
2. What is the minimum depth at which a lining should be replaced? (these look to near new) Thanks,Lew

You almost never get a good result, but sometimes you can burn it away, not to high temperature on the torch though, but as I said, most of the time you will not get a good result, the grease/oil creeps into the lining and is very difficult to remove.

Unless you're worried about paying for your next meal I would replace the brake shoes. The oil that has worked it's way through the lining will come back to the surface at the high temperatures experienced in hard braking. You will have diminished braking capacity just when you need it most.
