Sweet! I figured you would like the truck a bit better once it was opened up a little better.

There is a full down pipe from autozone for an 81 that will delete the front cat and runs all the way to where you put the new glass pack on. Its all one piece as well. It may not be the greatest pipe as it is a pre made item but I loved the ease of install as it bolts to the exhaust mani with two bolts, then has the two clamps as it wraps under the trans, it even make the turn towards the back just like yours. which is where you attached the new glasspack.

I done the research for ya and looked up the pipe i used from autozone and then cross checked the pipe with oriely, it is part number 44958. $102. this will go all thw way from the manifold to where your glass pack is. easy as pie. I went with the thrush welded too, its a bit more mellow but has a nice low tone too.

Next up is to go and find the supersix intake then you will really be cooking. Keep it up and post back.

Ssg,

I will have to make a block plate for the upstream tube that bolts to the head. Looking at the pic of your front catalyst it looks like it wasn't connected to the upstream tube...Have you noticed how that was plugged on your truck?

Here's a pic...the upstream tube is right above the motor mount and bolts to the head at the back of the engine by the exhaust manifold. You can see how the smog pump is connected to the catalyst. Eventually i want to take the smog pump off and use a idler pulley and bracket in it's place to provide adjustment for the AC belt

So the 44958 mounted right up on the 84' D150?

Not sure what the tube is that you have that runs to the head? I don't have it nor was it there when I got it, may have to look when I get home to see if its blocked in the back. Not sure what it even dose.

Yes the part numbers are the same for both stores and it bolted right in, great pc if looking for simple and don't even need an exhaust shop. Not sure the outlet size but lookes just like where you connected the glass pack. It gets bigger at the turn just like the factory. And cheaper at orirleys too. Just get a new gasket and soak the bolts a few times in the previous 48 hrs w PBS blaster. I got replacement grade 8's to replace the OE ones.

Once you get that one changed, and a few minor tweaks like timing, it will be night and day diff. Like adding 2 more pistons. As always, keep at it and keep us posted.

Here's a pic of the truck when i first started working on it...i used paint to point out where the upstream tube bolts to the head so you will know where to look

Since your truck is a 84' model (same as mine) i figure your motor has it. You probably want to check it out to make sure that hole to the cylinder is plugged. It is for emissions and connects to the smog pump

After i make my plug i will post a pic...what i'm going to do is take a outline of a gasket for it and use it as a template to cut it out of a piece of metal and then use a gasket to help seal it.

Yeah, that's definately the next step...it will be nice if it runs even better
