Hey amigos, I m thinking of replacing the cam in my 84 pick up. My question is do I have to pull the head to change the cam? What other pitfalls am I facing? Also is it possible to change the cam without pulling the engine? I thank you for your input. Su amigo......mexicanjoe!

You will need to get lifters out, what head drool tube or peanut plug. Peanut head will need to come off to get lifters out.

It is possible to pull the cam without pulling the engine.

Why would you want to do all the extra work of changing the cam in the truck though?

Be lazy like me. Pull the engine.

What cam are you planning to put in it?

CJ

Ceej, I have not decided on the cam as of yet. I have to figure out my diff ratio real soon. I have a OD trans ,im hoping to pick up a little mileage and maybe a little zip in the old bomb. I hope to find. 3.55 or 4.10 gear in the diff. However, I want to repaint and fix up the old girl ,so my oldest has a ride that stands out among the rice burners at school.
