The car ran a best of 13.82 and the MPH hit 95. The car really feels good, and runs smooth. I really tempts me to let it wind up a bit more but I am trying to use resrtaint and shift at 6200. Once I drop in the 4.56 rear It may have to turn a little more RPM at the line.

4.56 gears will go in for the 1/8 mile at Farmington /Wilkesboro races next month. Then I will probably just leave them in and try running them on the 1/4 mile.

Rick
Good stuff! :D

You must be running a smaller diameter tire than I am. With my 4.62s and 25" tires I was right at 5800-6000 at the finish line at Clay City.

Don't make it too much faster for Farmington/Wilkesboro! I wanna do some fender to fender racin' with ya!

I have 26" tires. I'm not sure exactly what I am running at the line. Somewhere betwen 5700 and 5900. Really don't watch the tach as much as the A/F gauge.

I should be somewhat faster with 4.56's, but I don't know how much.

I will bet you'll be lucky to pick up a tenth.

Ok that is good to know. I will see in about a month, where it runs in the 1/8th. Then I will likely take it to a 1/4 mile track and see what it does. If it really is only a tenth, I would likely just put my 3.91's back
in.

I hope they work for you. The red car seemed to hate them. It always went faster wigh 3.91's.

I was afraid those 4.62s were going to be too much for the 1/4 mile, but they seemed to be okay hitting 5800-6000 at the finish.

Several people have mentioned that the MPH is a bit low for the ET I'm running.

1/4 = 13.749 @ 93.431 MPH
1/8 = 8.603 @ 77.232 MPH
60 ft = 1.818

I looked again and my tires are 25.5 rather than the 25 I mentioned earlier.

I may try swapping in the 8 3/4 with 3.91s to see if it changes things much.

Either way, I ain't plannin' on missin' the races next month. In fact, I'm gonna spend Memorial Day weekend gittin' GodsRods Duster II ready ta take ya on!!

You'd better hope them taller gears give ya what'cher lookin' fer, cuz lookin' at yer times... I still got'cha!!

My car seems to be a bit slow on MPH too when I look at some others, but I attributed that to not having a great cylinder head. However at Mason-Dixon last weekend I did pick up almost 2 MPH from my first outing. (95 MPH last week) The air was not nearly as good last week either. So maybe my engine is still getting everything seated correctly.
Over all very pleased!

I got the 4.56 gears installed and took a run down the street and everything seems good. I had to install a conversion joint since this rear has the big yoke. Right now I think I got Rob covered by a .1 of a second. Are you ready to rumble Rob???

Also while the wheels were off I did a little measuring on my brakes and backing plates and axles. The brakes that are in the car are 11" X 2 1/2" and are very heavy for my car. But I got them complete and very cheap! ($20)

But the new 8 3/4" I just got for my truck has 10" X 2 1/2" brakes and the drums are quite a bit lighter. Looking at the axles/ backing plates, it appears that they both have the same offset in them. So after the racing season is over, I will swap in the 10" brakes to my race car and put the larger 11" ones into my truck. That will be better for the truck since I will be doing a little towing with it.

I need to make a metering rod change and then I'm ready for Farmington / Wilkesboro!!

I doubt I'll get to do any test & tune before the race, so I don't know about that .1 you think you got me covered by... :?

I'm just gonna do like I dun at Clay City: Pull the tarp off,... tow it up there,... And WIN THE RACE!!

Looking forward to lining up next to you, Rick!

Me neither! I have been working lots of hours and haven't had time to do any more testing. We'll just "run what you brung" and have a great time.

We had a nice weekend at the races in Farmington and Wilkesboro and the car ran well except for some overheating issues. My Mini-Mitsubishi radiator just does not cool good enough with the new motor. More cubic inches, more compression, and more HP equals more heat. I'd make a run and then try and run the electric fan to cool it down ,and then I killed the battery! So I just would make a run and then hook up the jumper cables from the truck to my car and run the fan as long as I wanted. That got me through the night.

But, I don't like to mess with things at the track and I like things to go smooth and work as they should. So I ordered and new Griffin aluminum radiator from Summit and that should end the cooling issues.

I hope to get that installed and head up to the drag races at Carlisle in July. That is if it is not above 100 degrees!

Also kind of hard to tell if the 4.56's helped or not. I did pick up 2 MPH in the 1/8, but the 60's were not any better. The ET was close to the same as with the 3.91's at Mason Dixon. I need to do a little more analyzing of my data. But it was also a little bit faster than Rob's car. If I could just learn to drive now.

Rick
