Andy thanks, I will be so glad when I get done with the wiring-electrical....I like the mechanical side, the wiring is just like work.

Blue ties? Come on DT  it does not match the paint! Did your wife not talk to you about how to properly accessorize?

from here on out, respect for installers that do this for a living,,,
I found this to be a tight job working inside truck doors stripped of seals and windows,,,,,, and people do this on Honda's? not me

a view of the dash not seen in a while...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@N ... 522080170/\\

added sound absorbing material to the inside of the dashboard,, working to prevent the dash from resonating like a snare drum,,,
used a denser aluminum backed product to add substance around the dash speaker mount,,,
in all this added a fair amount of stifness to the dash,,

a little trivia,, adding AC to the 83 D-150,, the AC components I am using came from TurboRams's 85 D-150, I traided him the manual steering box from my 83 for the AC stuff from his 85. Really nice that the dash is AC component ready... :D the 83 dash had AC duct mounting studs molded in,,

it is really nice when a couple of cheap components work out fine.

I was wanting to do something other than the standard super six carb mounted round air cleaner,, went to the local pull a part to get some ideas... saw a factory carb hat with a fairly smooth lines on a mid 90's gmc suv,, then picked up an air filter housing (with thumb screws) off an early 90 pontiac..
The carb hat was something like 6.00 the air cleaner housing was 5.00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rggQ3WUn ... e=youtu.be

the carb hat is almost a plug and play, but not quite the mounting hole that sets on the carb is about an inch oversized,, and it sets real close to the choke linkage,, I made a spacer to move the hat up about a quarter of an inch and to fill in the space around the carb throat.

the air cleaner housing is a nice fit to the front radidator support wall,, had to cut a hole for the air intake and drill two mounting bolt holes..

the dash cluster and added gauges are installed,
the ac-heater controls and in dash ducting (got those from turboram) are functioning, air ducting to the carb is done. Also got the HEI module mounted and the ignition timing set. The ignition timing is 10 initial, 20 with mechanical added and 35 with initial + mechanical + vacuum.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOHqbibx ... e=youtu.be

here is a second video that shows the the 1990 gauge cluster. The original 1983 speedo was mechanical and driven off a cable. The 1990 speedo is still analogue, but is driven off a vss.

Looking good! I would love to know how you adapted a VSS to the slant six drivetrain.

the VSS screws directly into the transmission output port for the cable drive that runs the mechanical speedo. The one I have is listed for an auto tranny,, the a833 mounting is the same and it was a perfect fit. It plugs into the little plastic gear that resides inside the tranny and is swapped to accomodate tire and wheel diameter changes....

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinf ... cc=1084766

the one shown is for a 1990 D-150.

the VSS has two wires,, one goes to ground the other to the device that is processing the output from the VSS. I have a 1990 VSS FSM wiring diagram, it shows the output from the VSS splitting, goes to the speedo and to the vehicle ecm. I don't have an ECM so the signal is going only to the speedometer.
I also plan to use the VSS to regulate the cruse control module that I am installing,, but do not have that operational yet.

VSS= Vehicle Sped Sensor

Thanks for the info. I need to figure out a way to adapt one to a Ford fuel injection system for a fuel injection conversion I am working on. I am crossing my fingers that the output from the Mopar unit is the same as the output from a Ford unit.

Looks good, I see that the newer gage swap went well too. I'll be finding a newer set soon and plan to see how it all works.

Be nice to see this thing in person too.

Keep at it!
