 Post subject: Carburetor Position

Running a bracket race slant six, nothing fast high 14's at best, running a Carter AFB off of a 1967 273 on a Clifford intake. Currently i'm running it with the primaries facing the head.

My question is which way have you guys found to work out better, primaries facing towards the head or the front of the car? Facing the head to mean just looks like it would distribute the fuel more evenly at wide open throttle.

on the shorty manifold it's not as critical as the runners are so short that the mix will just get tugged into each port...if it were a hyperpak manifold primaries toward the head works well for street and strip as the secondaries opening will sweep past the primaries and provide better mix over all especially above 3500 rpm...

Can't help you Bud, I have always run the Hyper pak and the carb mounts as you described. I do agree that will provide the best mixture to a slant intake layout. And 14's for a slant is plenty fast for 225 or so cubic inches! Good Luck with your combo.

I also have the option of borrowing one of the Aussie Hurricane manifolds. But i'm looking more towards keeping the low end torque up not high rpm hp. I'm thinking my Clifford intake will offer me better low rpm torque over the Hurricane. Any opinions on using this manifold?

The long ram manifold actually is better for low end torque than the short ram, the difference on the high end is when the intake "ram-tunes" and the efficiency of the engine improves as the 'wave' bounces from the valve openign to the end fo the manifold and back again.... The longer the runner the more low end can be developed (to a certain point...).

I agree with DI. I have tested several of the Hurricanes and the Long Runner is a low end beast.

I think stock for stock that would be a correct statement, I think splitting the plenum in the clifford intake per Doc's mod changes the parameters and makes the clifford intake reliable in all power bands 800-6200 rpm, although in an all out race engine needing fatter runners that only leaves the clifford shorty and the dutra FatPak as contenders.
