Hello everyone, I just signed up on here. I just bought a 1987 Ram Van with a slant 6. I have a leak in the stock cat and I really want to get rid of it. Does anyone know if the early 80s ram truck no cat downpipe will fit on a van? I think the van and truck were on the same frame but I know a floor shifter won't fit because of the frame rail.
Thanks in advance!

I can't answer your question, but I see you're in PA. Won't you have a problem passing inspection, if you remove the cat?

Hello and welcome to the forum. I just did this mod for my '85 van. I bought a non-cat downpipe for a pickup (walker 44958) from summit. I unbolted the flange at the manifold and cut the pipe in between the main cat and muffler. after that I patched in stock 2" diameter pipe(s) to the muffer and was done. I had to over-bend the replacement downpipe, using the patch pipe as a lever, so it would line up with the muffler. This had little effect on the area of the bend. You only need to do this slightly, just be careful not to overbend it or you will start crushing the pipe at the bend. You will also need to plug the air injection fitting with a plug. I don't have a p/n right now but I can get it if you need it. I believe it is a M22 thd.
The other option is to have a shop do it better with 2-1/4"dia.
If inspection is an issue, you can try to patch it to the original or install new main cat but you won't have the mini-cat located by the manifold.
My van runs much better now that I eliminated those horrible factory bends around the mini-cat.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to order the pipe today.
If the manifold converter is a precat, the main cat has been removed already. mine has a long pipe to the muffler, muffler and tailpipe.

As far as emissions is concerned, I'm in a non-emissions county and I know a guy...

Ok, the truck pipe came in and looked like a headache to make work. Not to mention plugging the injection port.
I went to the Chrysler nationals, which should be renamed MOPAR V8 nationals.., and picked up a pipe from a volare. It was the whole downpipe to muffler pipe. I cut a few feet off of it and added 4 feet of 2" pipe, installed a new muffler and attached the tailpipe. No cats and only 1 clamp before the muffler. After doing all this I found the tailpipe has 2 holes in it where the mount was(it fell of while i was working on it) so now i just need to get a tailpipe.
Today I learned that the Chrysler nationals suck if you want Slant 6 parts, I could count all the slant 6 parts I saw on 2 hands and a $5 used Volare pipe will work on vans!
Anyone want to buy a brand new truck downpipe or a used air injection pump?
